Great White Shark Providing Researchers with New Data from Newfoundland's Grand Banks

Researchers are keeping an eye on the activity of a great white shark which seems to have found a comfortable place on the Grand Banks off Newfoundland.

Baker the great white shark (Ocearch)

Baker, a nearly 13 foot, 1,400 pound male that was tagged in July of 2025, has been swimming around approximately 200 miles southeast of the Avalon for the last three months.

Ocearch, a U.S.-based research group which has been studying the movements of great white sharks says Baker’s apparent preference for the area suggests the Grand Banks could be an important foraging ground for adult great whites.

Researchers are now going over the data provided by Baker’s movements to gain a better understanding of what sharks are doing in the area and what’s attracting them.
