YOU SAID IT: Fake Canadian patriotism

FAKE CANADIAN PATRIOTISM

I still encounter a lot of fanatical anti-American sentiment on a daily basis. I don’t think they realize it can actually cost some Canadian jobs.

I am a lifelong Canadian, but refuse to participate in what I consider to be fake Canadian patriotism all of a sudden stirred up by Mark Carney and the Liberals’ constant fearmongering.

I don’t specifically shop Canadian unless it’s the best price and value. Also, I would have absolutely no problem taking a nice trip to the United States any time I wanted.

DECENCY A TWO-WAY STREET

Re: YOU SAID IT: Some example Cub setting, letter to the editor, online, May 26

I respectfully disagree with the letter writer who complained about the incident (a profanity-laced exchange) between a fan and a Chicago Cubs baseball player. Yes, people pay good money to heckle or cheer. But, like going to a club and heckling a performer, expect a rebuttal back. Further, all that was heard were two words from the fan’s heckle. Was more said?

The letter writer mentioned common decency, but it works both ways. Just because one pays money to see an event does not give the person the right to directly insult a player. Sure, boo the team or boo the player. But directly insulting a player? Shouldn’t common decency work both ways?
