Charges laid in DTES assault
Two men have been charged after a 75-year-old senior was robbed and slammed on the wall in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside last week.
The man was attacked, punched in the face, and robbed near East Hastings Street and Jackson Avenue on July 28.
Video footage released by police showed the man going after two people trying to get his belongings back. One man could be seen grabbing the senior and slamming him against the wall.

On Tuesday, Vancouver Police said it has arrested and charged two men in connection with the robbery.
Two days after the incident, officers spotted a man believed to be involved in the robbery and arrested him without incident.
On Aug. 2, officers responding to a separate incident of an unwanted person inside a home identified the second suspect and arrested him.
Kurt Werner Steinhauser, 43, and Andre Joseph Brunet, 40, have been charged with robbery.
Court records show Steinhauser has a lengthy criminal record in Prince George and the Lower Mainland, including robbery, possession of stolen property, theft, and assault.
Brunet also has previous convictions for procuring false identity documents, an incident stemming from Calgary in 2021, and break and enter in Vancouver in 2019.
Brunet is expected in Vancouver provincial court today for a bail hearing. Steinhauser’s next court appearance is Thursday.
