Mumford and Sons in Vancouver: What to know before you go to the concert

Mumford and Sons

Less than 12 months after the release of the  No. 1 charting Rushmere, Mumford & Sons returned with Prizefighter. The 14-song set released in February has drawn some of the band’s best recent reviews, with singles such as Robber Band Man with Hozier and Here featuring Chris Stapleton lauded for their easygoing folkiness.

Returning to the less amplified and rock-oriented sound that first broke the band globally, Prizefighter was co-produced and co-written with Taylor Swift producer Aaron Dessner.

Besides the hits with Hozier and Stapleton, the record also features collaborations with Gracie Abrams and Gigi Perez. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the new album’s material is the Banjo Song.

Featuring a video clip directed and produced by the Bristol-based events collective Streets of Soul, the film features dances cast from the club-goers Streets of Soul met at their regular Northern Soul Club nights. While the track comes a year after Sheffield legends Pulp showcased the Northern Soul dance scene captured in archival footage in Got to Have Love, the Mumford & Sons video brings the upbeat and creative regional dance style into the present day.

As ever, Marcus Mumford’s voice is a perfect mix of straining grit leading into the rousing group harmony vocals that have defined the band since Little Lion Man became a breakout hit from 2009’s smash debut Sigh No More.
