Summer scares: Spirit Halloween retail stores open in Edmonton

While most Edmontonians are still basking in the summer sun, some folks are gearing up for spooky season.

It’s only the beginning of August, but Spirit Halloween stores are sprouting up in Edmonton. The mega retailer known for selling horror-themed items and inspiring jokes about their speedy pop-up shops has two locations in Edmonton open to shoppers, with more to follow shortly.

As of Tuesday, two Spirit Halloween stores have opened — one in the former Bed Bath and Beyond location at West Edmonton Mall and one at the vacated Rona building in south Edmonton. Two additional Spirit Halloween stores are also set to open this month in north Edmonton at the former Toys “R” Us and in west Edmonton at the ex-WestWorld Computer store.

“As the world’s largest Halloween retailer, we work to deliver best-in-class offerings and in-store experiences that help enthusiasts celebrate the best time of year,” said Mary Griswold, marketing and public relations associate for Spirit Halloween, in an email to Postmedia.

We expect 2026 to be another killer year thanks to our ever-expanding and in-demand collection of new and returning costumes, accessories, and décor, along with our industry-leading lineup of animatronics.”

Spirit Halloween, currently owned by Spencer Gifts, counts more than1,600 locations in North America. There are 88 days until Halloween as of Aug. 4.
