G.A. Teske’s letter is absolutely correct with respect to the premier’s referendum questions. Unfortunately, it is intent rather than incompetence at work here. Clearly, the premier hopes there is sufficient ambiguity to produce a result that allows the government to go forward with a plan that already exists.
When the premier says “Albertans,” she’s not talking about all of us. She’s not even talking about most of us.

Seniors eye exams still covered
As an Alberta senior, I am writing to inform you that, yes, our provincial health coverage covers eye exams. Many seniors may not realize that while the Alberta Health Care Insurance (AHCIP) still provides one free comprehensive eye exam every benefit year (July 1 to June 30). The rules around our care have just shifted.
The province no longer covers partial follow-up eye exams for seniors. Furthermore, many optometrists now charge out-of-pocket fees or co-pays for advanced diagnostic imaging during routine visits.
Regular eye exams do more than just update a prescription; they catch serious conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration before irreversible vision loss occurs. While we still have access to essential annual exams and urgent medical eye care exams, it is vital that seniors themselves stay informed about what is and what is not covered when they visit the clinic, not blame the UCP for their lack of coverage.
