Health Canada has issued a recall for a brand of mushrooms sold in Alberta over potential for listeria contamination.
An online advisory states the recall is for Highline’s “Organic Mini Bella Mushrooms – Sliced”.
The federal health agency warns that while food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled, it can still make a person sick.
Symptoms of listeria related food poisoning can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
“Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk,” says Health Canada, adding, “although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth.”
“In severe cases of illness, people may die.”
If you believe you’re sick from consuming a recalled product, it’s advised you contact your health care provider and check to see if you have recalled products.
Affected mushroom packages have the following UPC: 7 71163 00048 9, as well as the code 199AHMCF.
